Is Addiction, Brain Disease? Pornography addiction and sex addiction are very alike sicknesses, arguably a sex addiction is not a disease or sickness however, and I feel as if it is. Walking around a sex addict you would probably never know about their disorder unless told otherwise. Many debates are about whether or not sexual addiction is an actual brain disease but just like drug addiction and alcohol addiction I classify it as the same. In a study taken in 2013 The Discovery Channel found that neurological scientists hooked up people with a so called sex addiction and compared there brain activity to those that have a drug or alcohol addiction finding that the activities did not match and that sex addicts were not classified as actually having a brain disease. I still believe sexual addiction is a neurological disorder however studies show that it is not, I am here to prove it is indeed. The fMRI is a scientific tool used to record brain functions this machine has also helped teach scientist more about the addiction disease characteristics of the brain â€Å"The fMRI had been discovered in the early 1990s but it only became increasingly popular by being used in addiction studies almost ten years later. It functions the same way as the standard MRI, a tool using a strong magnetic field and radio waves however, instead of taking pictures of the bodys organs, it tracks the brains blood flow.
